2025 KTM 390 Adventure: A Serious ADV with Bigger Wheels, More Power & Smart Tech

The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure has been launched in India at ₹3.68 lakh, making it ₹4,000 costlier than the outgoing top-spec variant. This new iteration brings substantial changes, making it a more off-road-capable adventure tourer. The most notable upgrade is the switch from a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheel setup to a larger 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tubeless spoke wheel combination, significantly improving its off-road prowess. These wheels are paired with a high-performance WP Apex suspension system, featuring upside-down (USD) forks at the front with 200mm of travel, offering 30-click adjustability for compression and rebound. At the rear, the monoshock now has 205mm of travel, with 20-click rebound and 10-click preload adjustments, allowing riders to fine-tune their setup for different terrains. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm disc at the front with a radially mounted caliper and a 240mm disc at the rear with a floating caliper, ensuring precise and effective stopping power.

The ergonomics have also been revised for improved comfort and better control. Despite lowering the seat height to 830mm for improved accessibility, KTM has increased the ground clearance from 220mm to 227mm, further enhancing its off-road capabilities. The kerb weight has gone up slightly from 177kg to 183kg, but the fuel tank capacity remains unchanged at 14.5 liters, ensuring a balance between range and weight. The frame continues to be the lightweight trellis chassis KTM is known for, but the subframe has been redesigned for improved durability.

Powering the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure is the heavily revised 398.6cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine, which now delivers 45.3bhp and 39Nm of torque—an increase of 2.4bhp and 2Nm compared to the previous model. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch and a bi-directional quick shifter, enhancing both smooth shifting and rider convenience in off-road conditions. The revised engine is expected to offer better refinement and throttle response, making it more enjoyable for long-distance touring and aggressive off-road riding.

KTM has also given the 2025 model a fresh design overhaul, taking inspiration from its bigger siblings, the KTM 790 Adventure and 890 Adventure. The new bodywork, sharper fairings, and a redesigned fuel tank area contribute to a more rugged and aggressive look, reinforcing its adventure-oriented DNA. In terms of technology, KTM has significantly upgraded the electronics package, now offering cruise control for highway comfort, switchable cornering traction control for better grip management, cornering ABS for enhanced braking stability, off-road ABS for improved control on loose surfaces, and three riding modes—Street, Rain, and Off-road—allowing riders to tailor the bike’s performance to different conditions. These features are managed through a new five-inch TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity, providing clear and intuitive access to riding information and smartphone integration.

With these updates, the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure aims to set a new benchmark in the entry-level adventure touring segment, offering a perfect blend of off-road capability, highway comfort, and advanced electronics. The changes make it a more serious contender for riders looking for a versatile and capable ADV bike that excels in both urban commuting and hardcore adventure riding.
